Waitakere artists are opening their home studios or joining in cluster  groups for the 6th Annual Open Studio Weekend. The public are invited to visit for FREE and: *meet local artists *see art in action *purchase local artwork *learn about the creative process.

A minibus tour is planned to selected studios. ($15 per person - bookings recommended.)

21st March 1 - 5pm: Free Concert with Waitakere Sounds @ Piha Domain.

Welcome to Waitakere Sounds 2010 and another summer of FREE music in a 'super city'! Proudly brought to you by Waitakere City Council

DJs! Thane Kirby kicks off with a George DJ competition winner at his side, before DJ T Rice with his funk-ridden soul beats. TV presenter turned party-rocking DJ Clarke Gayford hits the turntables, followed by veteran DJ Roger Perry taking it up a notch. Dick 'Magik' Johnson ends the day with his upbeat style - so be there when he drops his famous song 'Piha' as the sun sinks; epic!   WCC - Waitakere Sounds on the Web 


20th Mar: Piha Cafe presents an evening of Jazz @ Piha SLSC:

Mike Morane, and Cat Tunks (Black Sand Diva) with the Tony Hopkins quartet - featuring Kevin Field, on keys; Kevin Haines, bass and Roger Mammins on Sax!

$10 koha, 7:30 to midnight

    15th Jan: Big Day Out  As 2010 looms on the horizon like a sci-fi sequel it's time to announce what's confirmed for the next instalment of travelling mayhem known as the Big Day Out at Mt Smart Stadium in Penrose, Auckland. This time around we intend to deliver a monster series of shows designed to put a smile on your face.     This event has been moved to the Piha Domain.

    Put on your jandals, crank up the barbie and slap on some sunscreen because Coca-Cola is bringing your favourite Kiwi bands back into town!

    Let the good times roll at Piha Beach with the poster boys of NZ rock, Midnight Youth, and new-comers, Ivy Lies, on January 9 and chart-topping smooth-crooner, heart throb and all-round party boy, Dane Rumble, and Ivy Lies on January 10. With heaps of fun and games, the launch of the ZURF® (Cousin of the ever-popular and well-known ZORB® globe, the ZURF® is a large, inflatable, open ended cylinder which is maneuvered by people running inside it - all while in the water) and the Disruptiv guys utilizing their amazing graffiti skills with personalized body art tattoos for teens, this is a summer extravaganza that is not to be missed - all at the perfect summer location, the beach! The party starts at 11am each day with the best part being it's all on us, so just bring yourself, your mates and your sunscreen  set!
