Great to see a section of safe walkway on the Piha Road. I'm hoping this is just the start and we'll see more sections of the road made pedestrian-friendly. Living up the hill, I'd love to have a safe walkway so our children can walk safely to visit friends down the road or to the beach etc, or just walk up or down the hill for some exercise and fresh air (link into ARC tracks) without getting in the car. Walkways are in keeping with WCC's 'eco city' commitment and is something I wholeheartedly encourage, especially at a time when we're all trying to reduce our carbon footprint (short car journeys are the most polluting). Obviously if we could have permeable surfaces that would be best for runoff etc - I know the WCC have been using these for their Project Twin Streams walkways in town.

Great to see some 'safe walking' paths are being put in at the lower end of (Piha Hill )on Seaview Road. Thanks WCC

Tsunami spelt backwards produces the word Imanust-as in- Imanust not go down to the sea again,to the lonely sea and the sky. Not a lot of people know that....

I felt that gun blast, julia.

The bus stop - of course there is no public transport bus service to/from Piha - its there for our children - they shelter in the shop awning on cold wet winter days - Please don't drag this into your pro/anti cafe campaign, as shifting the bus stop to a "safer place" doesn't bode well for the kids, who may then have to stand in unsheltered areas in raining May - August...

Someone said on the radio the other day it takes 10 minutes to cross the road to the camp out there - is that true?
Julia at 11 Mar 2008 22:11
Not that I have seen. On some days there is more traffic than we are used most of the time, but where there is a road, there are cars and a human body will come off second best if they collide. The days there are more cars than usual are the days when there is a surf comp, expo or a public holiday or the week around New Year. Most of the time you could shoot a gun down the road.

Is there a traffic problem?
Mitch at 11 Mar 2008 16:00
The only time there is too much traffic at the shop area is a few days in summer. If it is such a problem, do something about it. Put in a zebra crossing or a round about. There is always some sort of solution, but bring on the cafe.

put yellow no parking lines on road adjacent to shop embankment but was not aware car/pedestrian accidents were such a problem in Piha

The unsafe roads are unsafe.
