Post Office Special Meeting
Sunday 16 November 2.30pm to decide on location of Post Office.

It's unbelievable. It just goes to show how people can't trust that what they read in the press hasn't been "doctored". I'm referring to the latest article in "The Aucklander" cleverly leaving out certain relevant facts.
For the record I think that if we are having a Post Office, even on restricted hours we should be able to have all services - e.g. register mail and re register cars, etc.

this may have been covered before: is it not possible to combine library and mail boxes?? the synergy (reading?) seems simple.

There is a Ratepayers & Residents Meeting to discuss the Post Office on 27th July at 3pm at Barnett Hall, North Piha. It is open to the public to attend. :)

Thanks for those kind comments about Fiona Mark but I have DELETED that blog. It is absolutely inappropriate and not the type of content we wish for this site. I agree with you - Fiona is a real asset to our Community in many waysl
Mark at 17 Jul 2008 12:30
I'm sure we don't want this site to get into personalities but defamatory remarks must be tempered. Although I think we all encourage full and frank discussion there may come a time when lawyers may step in and the good owners of this site may be put at risk. I can't expect Bobbie to vet all comments and so I urge people to take care. The comments re Fiona at the camp by HifromPiha are an example of less than borderline nicety. I've known Fiona over a number of years and I have never doubted her honesty and yes she does put her heart on her sleeve and does deserve at times what she gets but to accuse her of harbouring crims and being untrustworthy is just not on. If you are going to say things like that then have the guts to put your name to the comments or at least have the decency to phrase them better for Bobbie's sake. I hope to see Hi from Piha "come down" and join in the First Aid Group and do some real community work.

Concerned Ratepayers at 25 Jun 2008 06:36
We are interested to know if the R&R's contract with NZ Post is still a month by month contract, or has it been extended to a longer term? It appears to us that it would be financially imprudent for the R&R to purchase & shift the building/boxes onto another site if the contract is still only short term & could be nullified at any stage. Have NZ Post been consulted during this current fiasco, if not,why not? When are we the ratepayers going to be consulted on all of this? Can anyone on the R&R committee answer these questions for the growing number of concerned ratepayers?....... We wait for your reply with interest.

I can't help but agree with everything "Hi from Piha" has said. There are several alternative sites for the PO boxes. I know that stamps and envelopes are readily available from Fiona at the camp ground, maybe the store and library could also supply them, we don't need to employ a person to do that. As for sending of mail, I simply put up the flag on my mail box, that's what rural delivery is all about, for those who don't know, you should try it. We simply don't need a post office, or the expense of it.R&R you should be spending our money on far more important things, rather than getting involved property investment that once committed, you can never realise.

The Piha Post Office is pathetic. It is typical of the R&R that it is so desultorily run that it does not even open at hours when people who would use a post office could use it, let alone stock any useful merchandise to pay for itself. The person who runs it is more interested in bad-mouthing the people who have let her use the building rent free, to the point they got sick of it. Surprise surprise. Pity she didn't put that effort into actually making the job she had thanks to our R&R, profitable. Yes we do need post office boxes for the businesses out here, but since we have a general store, why can't it take a contract from NZ post and put in post office boxes? Or the new Cafe? They only take up about 2 metres square of wall area. What is the problem?

McAssey: It is my choice, this time, not to delete your blog below just so people can see what type of person you are. Free speech or no free speech this kind of posting will be deleted in the future.
Spankey McAssey at 17 Jun 2008 01:13
we are happy to donate the money if needed to keep the piha post office the way it was before all the idiots from grey lynn and those who had recent brain surgery decided to voice thier dickless wants rants and sexually pented up raves on what is and always will be a beach side community, to the owners of this money making and solely for profit site www.pihabeach.co.nz go back to where you flew in from, your stinking up the beach with your kaka...
long live free speech.
i wonder how long this comment will be on this site before its yanked off...
PS since the village voice is a registored trade mark of an american company, will you be abiding by the law or will like most things you do simply choose to ignor it..
i wonder what would happen if thier lawyers found out you were violating their copy right...

The P.O. is only worth keeping if it is open longer hours and offers postal services other than just mail. But where is it going to be put. does anyone know.
A Surfer at 09 Jun 2008 16:57
Yes, the Post Office is most definitely worth keeping!!!! (Po Boxes and the postal services!

I'm curious as to the motives/aims of the Preserve Piha Heritage Trust. They seem to be very concerned with preserving the European heritage of the last 150-200yrs but do not seem to have any interest in the Maori or natural heritage of our area. 200yrs of exploitation and destruction of the natural environment seems a strange thing to be proud of.

We were at that meeting in 2005 and left with the fact clearly in our minds that the R&R were going to purchase the Telecom land.Through their inexperience or naivety the R&R put in a tender far too low and missed out on the opportunity. There was, as far as I know, never a mandate to spend $16,000 of ratepayers money to move the building to another site.
The majority of Piha dwellers are on Rural Delivery. If existing PO box holders and users still want to utilise the building they should so at their own cost, not that of the majority of ratepayers. END OF STORY!
Bobbie at 05 Apr 2008 15:14
OK Piha people. How often do you use the Post Office? Is it worth $16,000 to keep or are private boxes enough?
