Allan,  Ross and Pat from Piha CoastCare planting spinifex on the South Dunes just past Lion Rock. 

A ghastly day but the plants must get in.

Below: 7/10/08 Spinifix doing exactly what its supposed to - catching the sand blowning up.  Without the vegetation this sand would end up on the road or house fronts.

Dec '08: After CoastCare members planted over 1700 spinifex plants on the Piha Dunes some vandals have pulled over 100 plants out and just left them to die.

Repercusions?  None!

Below left: Piha is these two woman's favourite Beach.  They live on the North Shore but through CoastCare heard about todays planting day so came to help out. They told me they thought it was only fair that they helped look after a beach they visit so often.   Thanks and enjoy the beach this summer

Below:  By planting the spinifex low it catches the sand at the bottom before it gets to the top.
