PIHA COASTCARE
HELPING TO CARE FOR PIHA'S NATURAL ENVIRONMENTPiha - Bobbie's Project A Photographic Story This is a photographic story of Bobbie's Project on the corner of Beach Valley Road and Sylvan Glade Piha - the Council property that borders Black Sands Lodge. This project was Bobbie's introduction to working with Piha Coastcare and Waitakere City Council - a relationship that gives me great support in what has become a serious case of OGGS - Obsessive Gardening Syndrome! I am rarely happier than when in my gardening gear, filthy and in the muck. All photos are low resolution so it doesn't take a zillion years to download. Email Bobbie HERE

Controlling the growth of flax next to walkways in Piha, Sylvan Glade As most of us are aware flax flowers are a great source of food for our native birds and it attracts them into our gardens which is great. But flax can cause problems next to walkways and the sides of our roads as well as contributing to flooding in some areas as rain or roadside water doesn't drain through it well. I am now working on trimming it on the eastern boundary of our property on Sylvan Glade Here are some photos .........
Left: flax overtaking our entrance and above the roadside walkway in Sylvan Glade, Piha Jan 2009
Left: clearing the roadside walkway by trimming flax and above trimming to let the roadside water through to the stream. Jan 2009 Below left: Just a trim around the base allows the water to go through and clears the roadside for pedestrians and below right its a good opportunity to get rid of the weeds at the same time.
