Piha - Beach Valley Rd Weedfree Project

Planting Plans

An important message from Chris Ferkins, WCC "Many plants including ferns spread really well naturally - wanting them on the site is thus not the same as needing to plant them.   If we create the conditions that enable them to grow (esp. take away the weeds, limit erosion of the stream bank etc) they will most likely just start appearing 'out of no-where'.  Thus our job, when planting, is to provide the community of plants as needed to assist the regeneration AND of course to add a bit extra as judged necessary for the visual amenity aspect of the street."

Here it is Beach Valley Road folk:  Our Planting Concept Plan.  But before you look I'd like to acknowledge the great work Kristy Hall, Restoration Ecologist, has done.  Not sure if you have met Kristy - she's a great gal and we have spent some time together walking Beach Valley Road, photographing, talking priorities for the project etc.  Kristy : thank you for a great document and for all your hard work :-)
